PILGRIMAGE TO ROME How can you get in on the action? Two Carroll Booster Charters will transport fans by air from Helena, with the first leaving next Wed., December 17, and the second on Thursday. The cost is $1,150 per person and includes air transportation, hotel, game and banquet tickets, tailgate and post-game party. ALUMNI NEWS Deaths In the News Certified Fraud Examiner John Flynn, class of 1988, is a financial analyst/auditor for the Operations Bureau of the Montana state Department of Justice and was recently honored by Gov. Brian Schweitzer and Lt. Gov. John Bohlinger with the 2008 Governor's Award for Excellence in Performance. The awards for outstanding professional and public service were announced on November 17 and recently presented to more than 150 state workers at a ceremony in Helena's Great Northern Hotel. First Interstate Bank recently announced three additions to its Commercial Lending Department, including Teri Calton, class of 1992, and Guy Almquist, class of 1997. Almquist brings 11 years of banking experience in commercial lending and credit analysis and is a 2006 graduate of the Pacific Coast Banking School. Calton brings 18 years of banking experience in bank management, commercial lending, consumer lending and credit analysis and is a two-time Carroll IMPACT business campaign co-chair. (Christopher) Dirk Williams, MD, class of 1996, a major in the U.S. Air Force, reports that he and wife Katy welcomed their second child, Grant Austin, on September 5, 2008. Baby Grant joins his three-year-old sister, Ava. The family lives in San Antonio, Texas, where Dr. Williams is completing a gastroenterology fellowship with the Air Force at Wilford Hall Medical Center. They plan to move back to Montana after his military commitment is fulfilled. First Lieutenant Jonathan Sohl, class of 2006, returned on November 21, 2008, from a 13-month deployment to Iraq. He is the company executive officer for Echo Company, 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division. He was welcomed home by wife Chanel (Spillar) Sohl, class of 2007, and daughter, Briley, who reside at Ft. Campbell, Ky. Josh Solheim, class of 2008 nursing grad, was commissioned on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, as a lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps. Beginning in January 2009, the Army is giving Josh leave to complete a six-month mission in Bangladesh where Josh will be working in an orphanage clinic. This second in a series of three displays is entitled, "The Fulbright Connection: Contemporary Bulgarian Artists, living in the U.S." This past summer, after receiving a Hays-Fulbright 2008 Summer Seminar grant, Fine Arts Prof. Ralph Esposito traveled to Greece and Bulgaria, where he learned of a group of Bulgarian artists living in the Chicago area who call themselves Bulgarian Artists Abroad. Founded in 2007, Bulgarian Artists Abroad promotes Bulgarian culture throughout the world and aims to unify all artists of Bulgarian origin who live outside their home country. Carroll is fortunate to have works on loan from these painters to share with this community. Art on display now includes paintings by Kosta Georgiev, Jordan Ivanov, and Milena Pramatarova. AND IN 2009: January 29: Dr. Kelly Cline presents, "The Climate Paradox: Venus, Earth, and Mars," at 7 p.m. in Simperman Hall Wiegand Auditorium, room 101-202. Free. Revolving around a high school shooting, this is a series of vignettes about the people involved and affected. Directed by Carroll senior Jocelyn Bjornstad in the Performing Arts Center. February 7: Annual Campus Ministry Headlights Spaghetti Dinner at St. Mary's Church, 4:30 p.m., to raise funds for the spring break service trips to Rochester, NY, and Cincinnati, Ohio.
